Commissions & Councils Awards

Presented by the Council on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, & Expression (CSOGIE), the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, & Expression (SOGIE) Award honors excellence in scholarship that celebrates the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, sexual-expansive, gender-expansive, two-spirit, and all others under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, in social work education and practice. The award is given to research that demonstrates high impact and advances the core values of the social work profession regarding LGBTQIA+ communities.  

The 2026 SOGIE Award recipient is Shanna K. Kattari, PhD, MEd, CSE.

Presented by the Council on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity & Expression (CSOGIE) and the Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity (CRECD) the Two-Spirit, Queer, and Trans People of Color (2-QTPOC) Award recognizes the significant teaching, practice, or service contributions of CSWE member(s) to the two-spirit, queer, transgender, gender non-binary and gender expansive communities of color in programs of social work practice. 

The 2026 2-QTPOC Award recipient is Trey Jenkins, PhD, MSW.

Presented by the Commission for Diversity and Social & Economic Justice (CDSEJ), the Community Partnership Action (CPA) award honors the contributions of schools and departments of social work and social work students (PhD, DSW, MSW, or BSW) in advancing community partnership action. 

The 2026 CPA Award for Programs is awarded to Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU) School of Social Work. 

The 2026 CPA Award for Students goes to Sangmi Kim, MSW.

This award, presented by the Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education (CORSW) recognizes manuscript authors who draw upon feminist and womanist theory, research methods, educational practices.

This year’s Feminist Manuscript Award recipient is Ingrid Aarons-Porter, MSW, LMSW.

This award, presented by the Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education (CORSW) honors a scholar who advances feminist knowledge, including Womanist and Xicanism perspectives. 

This year’s Feminist Scholar Award recipient is Camille R. Quinn, AM, LCSW, LISW-S, LMSW.

This award, which is bestowed by the Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education (CORSW), recognizes community practice, which shapes the process of social work education by exemplifying feminist leadership models. 

This year’s Community Impact Award goes to Kelli Rogers, PhD, MSW, BSW.

This award, presented by the Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education (CORSW), goes to authors whose work most advances feminist knowledge in the field of violence against women and children. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding scholarship of early career scholars working in the area of violence against women and children in social work education. 

The recipient of this year’s Violence Against Women and Children Manuscript Award is Yafan Chen, PhD, MSW.  

The Council on the Role and Status of Women (CORSW) also announces annual mentorship recognitions. The mentor recognition award honors mentors through the Women’s Council Mentor Recognition Fund. This mentoring project not only recognizes the influence of mentors in the lives of our members but also helps support the ongoing work of the Women’s Council.

This year, CORSW recognizes: Hanni Flaherty, PhD, LCSW, CASAC-M, Jane Lee, PhD, MSSW, Melissa B. Littlefield, PhD, and Dr. Shelita Jackson, DSW, MSW. 

The Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity (CRECD) Award is presented by the Council to doctoral students and junior faculty members with outstanding scholarship in the areas of racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity in social work education. 

The recipients of this year’s CRECD Awards are Angie Wootton, PhD, MSW (Junior Faculty) and Sangmi Kim, MSW (PhD Student).

Presented by the Council on Disability and Persons with Disabilities (CDPD), this award recognizes scholarship that advances knowledge about disability and the full participation of people with disabilities; explores related social, political, and economic issues; and contributes curriculum materials for social work education in this area. 

This year’s Disability Manuscript Award recipient is Alison B. Wetmur. 

Honorable mention went to Subin Na, Suzanne S. Tham, & Phyllis Solomon.

The Partners in Advancing International Education (PIE) Awards, presented by the Commission on Global Social Work Education (CGSWE), honor the contribution of social work faculty members, social work students (PhD, MSW, or BSW), and organizations as partners in advancing education for global social work. The PIE Awards are given in recognition of conceptual, curricular, and programmatic innovations in education for global social work. 

The Individual PIE Award recipient is Cudore L. Snell, DSW, MSW. 

The Student PIE Award goes to the study abroad students in University of Tennessee, Knoxville College of Social Work. 

The Program PIE Award recipient is the UArctic Thematic Network on Social Work.
