National Conversation on Academic Freedom: Challenges and Strategies for Social Work Educators

In June 2025, CSWE convened an important national conversation on academic freedom and its challenges and strategies for social work education. 

Academic freedom has become an urgent concern for social work educators committed to critical inquiry, inclusive pedagogy, and the foundations of the profession. This virtual conversation brought together faculty, thought leaders, and advocates from across the country for a timely dialogue on the evolving threats to academic freedom—and the strategies that those in the profession must consider to respond with clarity, courage, and purpose.
